Growing up as caribeñas in Orlando, Florida, in the early 2000s, Raquel, Jenn, and Ang are more
than friends—they are soulmates, spiritually bonded in the way that perhaps only girls of color
growing up together in the diaspora can be. As the years roll by, their strong friendship is a
shelter amid the storms that blow through their lives. And then in their 30s, Ang is suddenly
diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The Best Love Stories Are Between Friends is a memoir of friendship, girlhood, love, loss, and grief told in two parts. The first part narrates Raquel, Jenn, and Ang’s boisterous girlhood set within the Puerto Rican community in Orlando and the intimate bond that defined those years. In its second half, it illuminates in bold and visceral language the experience of losing a beloved friend, the loneliness of friendgrief, and the ways in which Raquel and Jenn find meaning again in a world without their soulmate.​
